Giant Defy Line Gets Top Nods!

Giant topped all other manufacturers in the 2011 Bicycling Magazine Editors’ Choice Awards, winning three of the eight major road bike categories featured in the magazine’s extensive annual review of the best bikes on the market. Giant was the only brand to win multiple categories, and the three it won this year surpassed its two awar...ds in 2010. Giant won the Best Women’s Road Bike for the third consecutive year. This time it was the Avail Advanced 1 taking top honors, with Bicycling editors praising the bike's versatility and Giant's attention to women’s-specific ergonomic design. Giant also repeated in the Entry Level Road category, with the Defy 2 winning for the second consecutive year. Editors cited the bike’s stable handling and comfortable, upright positioning as key factors in choosing Defy 2 once again. Adding one more win to the two it scored last year, Giant also took home the Plush Bike category with the Defy Advanced 1. Test editors reported the Defy Advanced 1 featured "the most spirited ride quality” of the other top contenders, and described it as “particularly smooth.”

National Geographic has made it’s Spring/Summer “2011 Gear of the Year” picks and the Giant Defy Advanced 3 is in the mix, right alongside the Apple IPad 2 and the Canon EOS Rebel T3i DSLR. “…an ideal road bike,” says Nat Geo. “Its geometry is more relaxed than you’d find in the pro peloton—and that’s exactly the point, since relaxed ...geometry is more comfortable on your neck and shoulders.”
Here’s more: “Yet if the Giant is “defying” anything, it’s the notion that a less aggressive geometry equals soft handling, since this full-carbon rig still offers snappy acceleration and takes corners effortlessly. Note that is ride is smooth as glass, though somehow just lively enough to not feel like it’s tuning out the road, a trait that’s often too common at this price.”
